Fresh out of Wichita, Kansas, Friday’s Waiting are here on the scene with their debut album titled “End of Days”. The album presents a glimpse into a band that is just starting to discover their power and hoping to emerge one day as a band that will be recognized more prominently on a national basis.
The album gets off to a loud and raucous start with “The Sun Shines On No One”. It’s a melodic, gritty anthem that gets its point across rather quickly with loud and furious guitar riffs that are found in rich abundance on this and all the other tracks featured on the album. ‘Die For Me” displays pretty much the same distinct musical qualities that were found on the preceding track, but it moves at a more faster tempo than the previous song did. “Self Righteous” is one of my favorite tracks on the album that displays the full range of efforts that the band has put forth here with lead singer Juana Villa pouring her heart and soul into this loud and passionate anthem. “Ambivalent” is one of the more quieter songs found on the disc that presents the band in a much different light and shows that they are capable of crafting other songs than loud, metal-oriented tracks.
The disc starts to draw to a close with “The Nothing,”, bringing about a feeling of somber and despair. They sound like a blend of Tool and Incubus, except on a much more prominent scale. There isn’t much diversity to the songs, but that just means that they don’t try to be anything they aren’t. It wouldn’t be fitting to have them play happy-go-lucky love songs when they’re good at dark, unrelenting songs that better suit their style. My favorite songs from the disc are “Self-Righteous,” “Die for Me,” and “Ambivalent.” I feel these songs display the best of what they have to offer. The female lead has the ability to encapsulate her audience, and is one of the best parts of listening to this band. Highly recommended!
